Illuminating my disconnect with nature.

This is a peaceful place I would occasionally go to and collect my thoughts. I have discovered the huge disconnect with nature in my life. It is impossible for me to live without my connection with quiet scenes and clear skies with the aroma of wildflowers, ferns, the smell of woods after the rain. Simply to walk in the woods with the smells around me awakening my soul and watching animals and birds and companions, my dogs, is a must and has to be very much a part of my life. I would wither away if I had to live in a city but put me in a field with wildflowers or a river gently moving along and I am blissfully happy.

My studio and home is in a lovely neighborhood with friendly  enough people but I never felt connected. It is not home and I have not been able to do the things that ground me and connect me to what I need most. Nature.

I have lost many people in the past several years to accidents and disease. I have attributed these feelings to the loss and pain of grief until I realized that was just a part of it. The huge disconnect to the one thing that always made me feel secure and protected was being able to go and be one in nature. I have always had a place I could walk, sit, garden, be in.  I have never been able to do that simple pleasure here. It has made me feel scattered and if I am to feel connected and whole this has to be created in my life again. The pain and grief were not for people, not all of it, it was the disappearing soulful nature of me. I have grieved for that person only I am still here. Just waiting to illuminate my light to the world around me.

Now that I see what the pain is, the solution is really simple. Get busy and fill my life with that very thing that missing. I am moving to Vermont and I have found the perfect little house, a perfect area in Vermont. I know it is my house. I can feel it is my happy place. What I find very special about this place in Vermont is when leaving Vermont I saw a double rainbow not once but twice and it shown over to this little town. I hope it was a sign and now that I see I hope all will be well.  The universe does not have a time-table like we do but eventually if we stick with learning and growing ourselves we just might someday understand a wee bit more.

My special little house.

I paint using a process called glazing. It is layering pigments down on top of each other building depth of pigment and emotion through color. The process is labor and time intensive. This painting took about 56hrs to complete. There are about 10 layers of pigment on this painting.

Look at the world with a love of life.

“If we look at the world with a love of life, the world will reveal its beauty to us.” ~Daisaku Ikeda

Nature is always changing and revealing new and wonderful images that capture my heart and attention. As an artist it is my intention to share those images with my nature art. I have added two miniature oil paintings below of botanical garden flowers that happen to be from my garden. I think these make beautiful thoughtful gifts for any mother who loves flowers and art.

Botanical original oil painting of pink hollyhock garden flowers by Laurie Rohner.
A cheerful botanical garden landscape painted in vibrant pink and leaf green of garden pink hollyhocks.

Can you see the pink blooms bright and colorful growing in the farmhouse cottage garden. A beautiful contrast against the green foliage brings this little gem alive with color.

Wonderful for anyone who loves flowers or for the out door wedding gift.

Pale Blue Iris Botanical Oil Painting Garden Flower Original Nature Art

Pale Blue Iris Botanical Oil Painting Garden Flower Original Nature Art

Botanical garden flowers is an original oil painting of a Pale Blue Iris by Laurie Rohner. The artwork is original and painted on a panel.

The iris I painted here was almost white but had a blue hue about it. I love the feel you get from the wild bush strokes and color placement. Simple shabby chic artwork makes a nice addition for Farmhouse Cottages.

The iris is probably my favorite of flowers due to their range of differences. The shapes and colors of the petals and how the shadows cast intricate designs absolutely fascinate my painterly senses.

Our past is not as important as our future.

So why is a car’s WINDSHIELD so large and the Rear View Mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, look ahead and move on.

Keep your boundaries high, your expectations low, and your heart open.

“Any time I am in resentment, I am not taking care of myself. I am blaming someone else for something I need to do.”

“The higher the expectations, the lower the serenity. I try to keep my boundaries high, my expectations low, and my heart open.”  -Anon

Thinking about the troubles I see about web sites for government services and seeing how dangerous they are I considered my web sites. Was I offering my customers the best I could deliver and were they secure? I looked at both sites Laurie Rohner Studio and Painted Furniture Studio asking myself were they what I wanted and expected? Weebly.com is the host site of my web sites and recently upgraded their services for people wishing to sell products. I was involved in working with a beta store to give feedback. I love what they have put together. I have worked with many different selling platforms from Etsy to FASO and found them to be expensive. I do not understand why if you are promoting your work it is a good thing to promote these huge communities with different shops and artist, because that is what you are doing. More to my point I can keep my expectations low and my heart open to what it is I am doing, sharing my love for nature and what I see in the natural world and how spirit moves me to create. If I do not market my things it is because I chose that day not to and I am taking care of my business guiding it along the path I see ahead of me.

Vermont Birch Tree Landscape Original Oil Painting on Canvas Nature Art by Laurie Rohner

Today there is too much resentment and blaming. Blame anyone but yourself is the norm and taking control of your life, not an option. Why are we giving away our freedoms with such ease? The freedom to choose your own happiness comes from within and there is nothing outside of the true spiritual self that will change that spiritual law. Not only will you stay a prisoner in your life but joy and serenity starts to disappear. You are given windows to gaze through and you alone can decide the direction, the course you will take. When you realize you are in control of those decisions and take responsibility for the thoughts and actions you take, you will not find blame and you are free of all outside blame.

For several days I have reworked my sites. I wanted to make them easier to handle and for my customers to navigate easily. I think by the end of the week I will have it looking exactly the way I want it to look with a connection to nature and to the spirit of nature which is very important to my work. For weebly.com I cannot say enough good things about this service and if you sell things online physical or digital you need to look into what they offer.

Go with the flow of your life.

Use whatever excuse you can to vibrate in harmony with those things you’ve been saying you want. And when you do, those things that are a vibrational equivalent flow into your experience in abundance. Not because you deserve it, not because you’ve earned it, but because it’s the natural consequence of the Law of Attraction. That which is like unto itself is drawn.

—Abraham

Moments, seconds of time in our lives, randomly mean nothing yet if we stop to look and understand what they might mean can change a direction in a life forever. How many times have you heard to go with the flow? or use the force? finding life comes up short. Maybe it is as simple, though difficult to keep up daily, surrounding yourself with exactly what it is that makes you sing from your heart? You know the feeling of excitement, apprehension, energy abounds suddenly even though you thought you were exhausted. There is nothing to stop you, you know exactly what it is you want, need, desire in your life. As the days wear on that energy dissipates and the excitement is gone but is it or have you slipped out of harmony? That is why I think to keep up the energy flow you must have triggers that bring you back to the flow of the life you really do want to follow. For me it is to sell my home in North Carolina and move back to Vermont. My heart sings every time  I even think about moving back so I know it is something I need to do in this life now.

I am painting little watercolors of Vermont picturesque scenic landscapes not only to share and sell but to keep me focused on where I am heading. This is a new watercolor I just added yesterday and I hope you like it. I have it in my studio Visit Here and in my etsy shop, Between The Weeds.

Work in the sense of joyously moving forward.

People will say, “Well, I have to work on my goals,” or, “I have to work on my visualization.” And we want you to think more about holding the vision because it is pleasurable to hold the vision, not because you’re trying to make the vision work in order to get to some place that you’re not now standing. “How much should I work?” We would say, work in the sense of joyously moving forward.  —Abraham Hicks

Recently I finished two paintings for a client.  I finished the paintings according to what I thought she had specified, took some photos and sent them to her for her approval. I heard back from her and my heart sank. She was not happy. Her vision was different then what I had painted. I read over what she was unhappy about and discovered her points were what I had also struggled with when working on the paintings. I knew I had to hear her words with love and not be offended or hurt because she now was upset. I sat and studied the paintings and discovered she was absolutely right and in every thing she found wrong was exactly where I had forced the painting to work. I learned many years before never completely finish a painting until the client says they like it. Now I was thankful I didn’t because I could rework the areas.

I had a new outlook and knew the solution was easy to fix. Why? I saw joy in the paintings and I felt joy in the work.  If not for the words from my client I would not have done my best work for these paintings. When I would think about them I would not feel complete but the opposite, I would feel I did not give joy and love to the work and I would have felt I failed myself. For me ii was paintings but for you it could be a whole world of infinite possibilities you do giving you a sense of joy. In this moment is it reading these words? An hour from now is it giving a child a bath, a dog a walk, saying hello to an old friend, raking some leaves, sitting alone with your self and loving the person inside? We all have goals and that is nice believe me I have too many goals. The key is no matter what the goal dream or visualization is do it from the hear, from a sense of joyous energy and you will feel it all come together.

In the painting Garden 1 I painted hollyhocks, coneflowers, bee balm, herbs and muscari and some bees with a hint of blue sky.

This is the second painting for my client Garden 2. In this painting it is a continuing landscape from the first with larkspur sweet pea, Queen Ann lace, herbs, coneflower and iris and don’t forget bees on a blue sky.

A last note is my client sent me a wow so much better than the images and she was absolutely thrilled.  This is joy realized.
